Louise Hopson has specialized in one-of-a-kind objects in clay since 1981, after receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Northern Michigan University. She later returned for an Art Education Certificate and graduate work. Hopson creates her ceramic pieces in her small studio space in Muskegon, Michigan. The materials employed are white earthenware, underglaze, and underglaze pencils and crayons. All of her pieces are slab constructed – from each tile to three-dimensional sculpted cats and dogs. Hopson employs all the elements of the visual arts with the written word – using alliteration and consonance, rhyme and rhythm – to create new images in the viewer’s mind. Hopson’s work has been exhibited widely throughout the Midwest and is on display across the U.S.
