| John August Swanson lives in Los Angeles. His art reflects his passion for social justice. A self-trained artist rooted in the traditions of his immigrant parents (a Mexican mother and a Swedish father), his work bears the fruit of his study of Mexican muralists, Russian iconographers, medieval miniaturists, and Swedish folk art.
Swanson’s work is represented in museums around the world, including the Tate Gallery and the Albert and Victorian Museum in London, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.
In 2006, Swanson was named one of 33 recipients of the first annual International Mother Teresa Awards acknowledging spiritual, artistic, humanitarian and philanthropic accomplishments. Swanson is among luminaries such as Pope John Paul II, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, President Jimmy Carter, Mel Gibson, John Michael Talbot, and Sister Wendy Beckett. |
